Garvin/Day Splashback Theory

The splashback theory is the unintended consequences of an otherwise perfectly good idea.

This is a running list of things that, at the time of invention, where pretty solid ideas. However, over time these ideas of opened up the unintended consequences associated with them.  this theory started off being more comical relief and has since evolved.

The first invention that spawned this thinking is the mens urinal.

Yes, men like to pee standing up but also like a bit of privacy. The vast majority of urinals, although are great inventions and wonderfully useful, also provide us with “splashback” off the urinal. This same theory can also be found when sitting on a public restroom toilet with an automatic flush. In both scenarios, all people become equal and become victims of the splashback.
